If you ask Veronica’s colleagues, they will all say that she’s a very positive and passionate person. Working for almost 2 years as a UC Solution Engineer at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. she is always willing to jump in and get involved, bringing new and creative ideas along the way.
In case you’re wondering, the role of a UC Solutions Engineer is to validate the high-level requirements and designs from an agreed Statement of Work (SoW) and produce a Microsoft-validated Teams solution that can be handed over to operations. As such, Veronica is there as a gatekeeper of quality – something she always does with a smile!
We caught up with her to ask about her interests, her positive attitude and how she felt about being our Values Employee of the Month for December 2019.
Q. A lot of people have said that one of your strongest quality is your positivity. What drives you in your day-to-day work?
I love technology and I like challenges; my role has both. The technology we use is always evolving, and we face many challenges in not only fulfilling our clients’ business requirements, but also their expectations. I’m surrounded by people who support me but also value and respect my work. For me, this is one of the main things that motivates me and makes me really appreciate the role I have.
Q. Why did you choose computer science? Did it always interest you?
I like science in general. As a kid, I was good in mathematics and when I turned twelve, I began to learn programming. Computer science appeals to me because you can never get bored, and there’s always an opportunity to learn new things. What’s more, technology develops very fast in a wide range of fields, from robotics to artificial intelligence, and it helps us improve our lives.
Q. In your video, you tell us that your work requires technical skills but also soft skills. In your opinion, what soft skills are essential to be a good UC Solution Engineer?
Soft skills are essential to navigate in today’s world; to connect us with our colleagues and customers and to help us deliver efficiently. In my opinion, we all need a good mix of soft skills to succeed: empathy; effective communication; creativity; teamwork; integrity… You choose!
Q. Last question, what advice would you give to someone who wants to adopt, like you, a positive attitude and promote our company values?
This is a difficult question to answer. I think that, ultimately, everyone should try and find their own personal way to live these values. In my case, I try to integrate them as much as I can into all my day-to-day activities.
