After working several years as Business Development Manager elsewhere, Rebecca Shih joined the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. in 2019.
As Business Development Manager, she plays a key role by supporting, advising, and consulting her clients to successfully navigate their digital transformation journey towards a modern workspace. According to her, she wouldn’t be able to do her job without three major qualities: flexibility, resourcefulness and consistency.
From Beauty Consultant in 2013 to Business Development Manager today, we wanted to know more about Rebecca Shih’s way of thinking, her customer-oriented career path and what led her to join our company.
Q. You started not so long ago at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. How was your first day in the company?
My first day at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. started in the Toronto office to meet my Canadian counterparts. It was great! We had opportunities for team bonding activities, and I jumped right into training on day one. I felt very excited about the possibilities and path to success.
Q. Why did you choose to work at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. and not for another company?
I have a great relationship with Kaytee Thrun, who is a Talent Acquisition & People Manager in the HR department. She was previously a client of mine who I really got to know over the last few years. When she asked for help on recruiting for a Business Development Role and sent me a job description – It just seemed like a great fit for me and the timing was perfect.
Q. Can you tell us more about your recruitment and the onboarding process?
It was very thorough. with a mock presentation. It was a great way for me to demonstrate my communication skills.
Q. You say in your video that one of your day-to-day tasks is to be the liaison between the international service team and end-user clients. Is it what you like the most about your job as Business Development Manager?
I do really enjoy playing quarterback between the two. Most importantly, I just love being able to communicate our vision to the customer and getting them excited about our solutions!
Q. We saw on your LinkedIn that you did voluntary work for several organizations, including “Feed my starving children”. What is the personal commitment that drives you to do that?
I believe that living a fulfilling life means investing in four categories:
- Professional & personal development
- Creative self-expression
- Physical fitness
- Giving back to the community
Q. What advice would you give to someone who wants to work as a business development manager?
If you’re passionate about technology, problem solving, and thinking outside the box – this could be a great fit for you!
