Arkadin is now operating as the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. Together we do great things

From Business Analyst to Chief of Staff, Marie Villand Magloire never stops evolving

After being in the company for 10 years, Marie Villand Magloire went from Finance Director to Chief of Staff one year ago. But what does this new role involve exactly? Brian Rumao, Chief of Staff to the CEO of LinkedIn, gives a good description of the role according to Marie.

He said that one of the most common questions he was getting was: “What do you actually do?” It is true that the content of the job highly depends on the profile and background of the person and the Executive. Marie’s main priorities are to support our CEO and our Senior Management Team (SMT) on running the management meetings, agendas & follow-ups, as well as driving strategic initiatives where needed.

From Business Analyst to Chief of Staff, the career path of Marie Villand Magloire at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. is quite impressive. We asked her a few questions to find out more about her journey.

Q. You went from Business Analyst to Chief of Staff. That’s an impressive evolution! How did it come about?

I think it’s been a healthy mix of good opportunities and working with good people / mentors / managers. But also, some hard work and probably a little bit of luck as well.

Q. Your career revolves around finance. Is it still true today?

It depends on the tasks, but I think my finance background definitely helps me in my role today. I believe I will always keep a business analyst perspective on the projects I run, just like an engineer would keep an engineering mindset with what they do.

Q. Since you started at the Cloud Communication division of NTT Ltd., you’ve had seven different jobs and worked in three countries (United States, Canada and France). You must have some stories to tell! Can you share one with us?

Many stories and many great people, yes. I have fond memories of all these jobs and teams I worked with. I remember that a few years ago, someone from the corporate finance team in Paris had this idea to participate in an internal challenge. We posted a video of us, introducing ourselves dressed up as participants of a Survivor TV show and dancing in our finance department! Many of us are still in the company today, but I challenge anyone to still find the video (even our CFO stars in it!)!

Q. You mentioned in your video that throughout your career you’ve had a lot of interesting projects. Which one was the most memorable / challenging?

It’s hard to pick one in particular, but I remember learning a lot during all the meetings and teamwork that took place after we acquired a company called Conference Plus (C+) in Schaumburg, USA.

Q. On your LinkedIn page, we can see that you have won the 2012 Arkadin President’s Award in NORAM (North America). What was this award about?

That’s a good question. It was a nice recognition from my managers regarding the work I had done on the financial forecasts & C+ acquisition that year. Good memories.

Q. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to follow a career path in finance in a global and technical company like the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd.?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make sure you listen and learn from all the people around you. And always take notes!
