Kie Min Lam joined the Cloud Communications division of NTT in 2015. Having progressed and taken on more responsibility over the years, Kie Min is now IT Engineer for APAC in the Singapore office. He ensures that the IT office equipment is running smoothly and is always available to fix any laptop issues for our colleagues. It’s no surprise that Kie Min was hugely involved in our Singapore office move last month. He took it upon himself to ensure all our IT systems were up and running in the new office while helping the old office to transition seamlessly. Many employees experienced at first hand his hard work, kindness, and patience.
“The first day at the new office operated without a hitch. Many will take this as a given, not knowing the sheer hard work and long hours that went behind the scenes. Thank you, Kie Min, for all the extra miles you did to help the entire Singapore office.”
We met with Kie Min Lam to get his feedback on his ‘Go the Extra Mile’ nomination and the praise he received from his colleagues.
Q. Your colleagues praised your hard work and energy in the recent office move. How did you manage such a smooth IT infrastructure transition?
The networks are the backbone of the office, so coordination with the vendor once the timeline was set was very important. I had to seek assistance from the EMEA team as my knowledge of the network equipment configuration was limited, and in effect, I became their ‘hands and legs’. I would stay in the office to complete tasks late at night, then I would wake up early the next morning to pass the equipment to the vendor for assembly. I also drank lots of coffee!
Q. What do you like most about your job here?
I can interact with lots of people that are very helpful and understanding. If anyone is having issues, the users can look for any IT personnel – regardless of their region – and we’re all glad to help. Everyone works as a team to resolve issues.
Q. What has been your favourite project at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. and what have you gained from it?
The office move was my favourite project as it was the most challenging one. Time management and planning were very important in successfully completing the project. Teamwork was also an important factor. If not for the Singapore relocation core team, I would not have been able to complete the project on time.
Q. On a more personal note, so that we can get to know you, do you have a passion outside of work?
I love technology and I have a real passion for gaming. I am also a food lover and love to explore new places with my wife.
