In any successful global company, finding the best new talent drives growth and brings innovative ideas. As part of the Cloud Communications division of NTT, Kaytee Thrun focuses on talent acquisition and human resources as Talent Acquisition & People Manager in our Americas region.
Over the past seven years, Kaytee’s role has progressed from talent acquisition to encompass a variety of human resources duties, so who could talk better about it than Kaytee herself? We met with her to do just that…
Q. How would you define a good Talent Acquisition & People Manager?
People-first. One thing many companies forget is that your people are your company. Being a good support system for them and providing resources to help them be successful and grow is key. I love how our HR team is a truly supportive partner for all our colleagues.
Q. You’ve worked in HR now for many years. Was this the career you had in mind when you were growing up?
Not at all! Even at 23, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career. When a recruiting role opened up in the company I was working for, I asked for it and got it. It was my first step into HR, and I had to teach myself. It was a great boot camp and I am so glad I made the jump.
Q. In your video, you talk about employee engagement and company events. Which project have you most enjoyed working on?
Customer Service Week in our Schaumburg Operations Center is always a wonderful week-long event. We host it each October and it celebrates the hard work of all our customer-facing employees. It includes food, costumes, games, and fun for a week, but the memories last for years. It takes months to plan and the result brings so much joy to everyone.
I also work on our values events, happy hours and the holiday party. For every event at Schaumburg, I work on concept and execution. We typically have one or two events per month for employees, whether in person or now virtual.
Q. You’re clearly a very busy woman. How do you balance your professional and private life?
I find my career very rewarding yet do make sure I have a healthy balance between work and life. The company allows me to have the time I need to thrive both in my personal pursuits as well as professional. I try to carve out time for myself and recently I have been using that time to remodel my house. But HR is something you never really turn off. Be good to your employees and be good to people in the world. I think it keeps me grounded and helps develop my personal relationships as well.
Q. Finally, what are your hopes for our industry and our company?
It is such an exciting time in our industry. The technology is in high demand and, just as the last seven years have shown me, there are more exciting changes to come. I love working for a global company and being able to see the scale of impact we have on the world stage. It is gratifying and I am confident that the Cloud Communications division of NTT has an exceptionally bright future.
