You think you know Cisco Webex, but do you?
Cisco Webex has for a long time been the industry standard for high quality meeting experiences, but a lot has changed over the last 2 years. The Webex suite has evolved to a point where there is a good chance you might well of missed a lot of the great capabilities that now make this a more compelling business tool than ever before.
Cisco Webex is more than just sharing your screen
The evolution of the Cisco Webex suite delivers more than the sum of its parts; integrations and simplicity are at the heart of the ecosystem and the way in which user experience is a focus, reducing the barriers for us regular people to use the technology in a simple joined up way.
Webex is your phone system
The latest edition to the Webex family, Webex Calling, sees the integration of cloud PBX into the Webex suite, this development now enables all of your key touch points within your business network, to be reached from a single integrated service, from a simple telephone call through to large scale meetings. This is a real enabler for enterprises where Cisco Webex now serves a comprehensive suite of fully integrated services for all of the communication and collaboration needs. Your business phone is where you are and fully integrated with the established Cisco Webex suite of communication and collaboration tools, productivity and mobility.
End-to-end ownership of the experience
Ownership of the single experience is not something you may think of as being important, but how easy it’s to replicate the simple desktop/mobile experience in a room environment is. Cisco own the software and hardware development so continuity of experience and rapid innovation takes place among the full suite with end user experience a focal point.
This benefits the users when we consider the experience, as a user, being able to integrate the tech into daily work activities is critical. But, quite often it’s avoided for risk of not knowing ‘how to’ or fear of failure during use.
Cisco has made the tools simpler than ever to join regardless of device and use with a simplified consistent interface. Where Cisco has excelled is through innovative hardware that offers a lot of great features, but most importantly again makes it simple for the host where joining is as simple as on the desktop but also intuitive. As an example, Cisco room endpoints with built in AI knows who you are (through proximity detection) and it can provide assistance to start your meeting. It also offers simplicity in sharing content, having a physical cable is no longer required. The AI doesn’t stop there, from the simple framing of the people in the meeting room or using the system to simply call someone using your voice, reliance of having a PC plugged in is no longer required.
Working with Teams is easier
Included with Webex Meetings and Calling is Webex Teams, which is your persistent chat, file sharing, meeting space that makes team/project work a dream. Chat continues before, during and after meetings, email is slowly taking a back seat and contextual chat and file sharing rules.
With Microsoft O365 integrations collaborating on shared files is a breeze as well as the calendar integrations when scheduling meetings. No longer is there a need for ‘plug-in’s when scheduling a meeting, just add ‘@meet’ in your location field for your meeting and a team will be set up with all the participants to start collaborating in advance of your meeting. With teams on the desktop or mobile, you can also join a Webex Meeting, through the Teams app allowing you the choice to join through either interface
Webex Meetings is more than sharing your screen
Webex meetings has also had a bit of a transformation over recent times. Not only is there a refreshed look but the whole user experience is simpler to use and harmonised with Webex Teams for a common feel. Still with all of the advanced options for power users, a simplified interface now benefits less frequent users.
The updated approach supports video first meetings with full screen video from the beginning with up to 25 people active on screen at any one time. Support for video playback is now possible with audio, by simply sharing an application or screen, just think of the last time you have seen a video with audio played back in one of your meetings!
Knowing who you have in the meeting can be problematic at times where understanding the roles people have in the meeting can be limiting. People insights provides a contact card that can display publicly available information that delivers more than just a name of the other participants.
You are able to see the role the person has, the company they work for and an array of information that contributes to a better understanding of contributors, which assists when meeting people infrequently or for the first time.
The Big Green Button
A much overlooked feature – but one that has enjoyed growing prominence when using Webex tools – is the big green button. Cisco have made it easy to join meetings to the point where the green button is your single access point to simply join a meeting. In the past clicking on URL’s or finding out how to join a meeting has for some people been a barrier to people taking on board the meeting suite. Now you get on-screen prompts when your meeting is about to start.
In the meeting room, no problem, control the system with your device with simple on-screen prompts and device proximity, help you start your meetings or share your screen on a Cisco room system easily. No Cisco room system natively built-in is the capability to join or be joined by any standards-based room endpoint. Technology is no longer the barrier. At the end, high quality experiences count.
