Always looking for improvement: the Solutions Consultant Adam Hislop

In 2019, Adam Hislop joined the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. as Business Development Manager. Less than a year later, he moved to a new role: Solutions Consultant. Since then, he assists the BDM’s team once they qualify an opportunity by being responsible for delivering the right technical solutions to the clients. Every day, he uses his previous experience and knowledge to design the Advanced Services effort, covering Project Management, Training, and Solutions Architecture.

By meeting with him, we discovered more about his personality and professional motivation. Let’s sum it up in these six questions and answers.

Q. Within your first year, you changed job from Business Development Manager to Solutions Consultant. What led you to this change? Was the process easy?

The process was easy, I have worked in Solutions Consultant technical presales roles for other businesses, so it was about moving into that familiar role at the Cloud Communications division of NTT Ltd. I believe I am better suited to the Solutions Consultant role and ultimately enjoy it more. The more you enjoy a role, the better your output is.

Q. According to what you say in your video, the one aspect of your job you like the most is working with all types of people. Can you expand on this for us?

The great thing about my role is the opportunity to work with so many elements of the internal business. I really like to work with our internal product or marketing teams. I give feedback or share an observation they really value. It might even be included in the product in the future or help improve systems, tools or documentation moving forward. I feel proud that my idea will help others in their role and will ultimately help the business at a global level.

Q. When you tell people about your job as Solutions Consultant, what is one thing that surprises them or gets them excited about the work you do?

I guess it is just the ability to work closely with key industry leaders like Cisco and Microsoft. We are always learning about new products and solution offerings. It is important that we understand the new technologies and solutions so we can position them to a customer if it is going to assist their business.

Q. How would you describe the company?

I believe the business is still only scratching the surface of what we can achieve. I joined the company because it was brave enough to pivot and move from traditional conferencing to cloud collaboration technologies. I think we have come a long way and the engagement is as strong as ever in Australia. However, there is still lots of room for further engagement and, with that, increased opportunity success.

Q. We saw on your LinkedIn that you are a volunteer team manager for an under-9s soccer team! Can you tell us more about that?

I happily volunteer some of my personal time during our winter soccer season to be the Team Manager for my son’s under-9s soccer team. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has meant that we have not played a match this season, but we managed to get some training in, and the club is also offering players virtual training sessions! I really enjoy being out on the pitch with a capacity to help both teams improve and most importantly enjoy the match, regardless of the score.

Q. What advice would you give a job seeker who’s thinking about applying for a role with us?

I would encourage them to consider working with any NTT division and especially ours. I think we are right at the start of an extremely exciting growth period under the NTT family. I believe we have great leadership, and this will help us navigate the course to partnering with more customers and in turn workings closely with the other NTT business divisions to achieve increased success.
